How gorgeous is this yarn that arrived on my doorstep last week? It's from the talented Emma at Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co. who specialises in naturally dyed non-superwash yarns. Her colours and fibre bases always blow me away. I'm amazed at the colours that you can get from natural dyes!
This is a beautiful sport weight Blue Faced Leicester, destined to become a Hay sweater that I'm making up as a sample knit for Emma. I do love a boxy jumper so I'm really excited to crack on with this. I've been wanting to knit Hay since I first saw it in Laine magazine, so I'm sure I'll have to find time to make another one for me!
I couldn't resist caking up a skein on Friday evening. My plan was to finish the second sleeve on my Emily jumper on Friday night, and start swatching this yarn at the weekend so that I could dive into the Hay sweater today, but the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry! I did make some good progress on the sleeve, but I'm still a couple of inches from the bind off (😞).
The yarn cake sat by my desk all morning, and in the end I gave in to temptation, planted myself in a sunny spot, and cast on for the swatch during my lunch break. I'm only a few rows in, but this yarn is already a dream to knit with - soft, light and silky with a subtle halo. BFL is one of my favourite fibres, and this doesn't disappoint! I think my gauge is a little loose though, so looks like casting on will have to be put off for a little longer.
