I really did have every intention of sewing on my Carbeth buttons over the weekend, but instead I've been completely consumed with a new cast on.
Strathendrick won me over as soon as I saw it back in January - it's the exact type of garment that I gravitate towards, and a full colourwork version is definitely on the horizon. But it's a pretty big time investment, so when I saw Kate's two-shade Strathendrick I loved the idea of making a simple, wearable toile. Since then I've been turning over colour combinations in my head.
I decided to step out of my usual comfort zone of greys and neutrals, and chose this deep burgundy paired with an intriguing yellow-green. It's a combination that is just so deliciously autumnal to me. I'm actually pretty thrilled to be using this green in a project - the shade is called "Olive Oil", and I've loved it since I first saw it. I briefly toyed with the idea of using it as the main colour, but chickened out. I think it's a slight step too far out of my comfort zone! Perhaps after using it as an accent colour I might have more courage to make a whole sweater with it.
Oh, and did I mention the ridiculous deadline I've set myself this sweater? Yarndale! Which is now less than two weeks away. This will be my first yarn show, and I can't quite believe that in all my years of knitting I've never attended one before! I thought it'd be fun to mark the occasion by wearing a handmade sweater, and of course decided that an oversized fingering weight sweater with 20 plus inches of positive ease would be a perfect two week deadline project! Needless to say, it's taking up pretty much every spare waking moment I have right now.
I've no idea if I'm going to make it, but I'm having a lot of fun trying. Wish me luck...
