Five Things Friday

Jedburgh Abbey

A handful of things that have been bringing me joy lately.

 1. A week off work!

Old Bridge End, Jedburgh
Graeme and I took a little time out of work to relax and explore. We didn’t venture too far, but we headed up to the Scottish Borders to visit Jedburgh, and also spent a little time a bit closer to home in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

They’re both places that we’ve been through or past numerous times, so it was nice to stop and have a proper wander around.

2. A picnic by the coast.

We packed a picnic when we went up to Berwick, and it was pure bliss to sit and feast by the coast on a beautiful sunny day.

Honestly, it's been years since I had a proper picnic. Although we often bring packed lunches with us when we head out for the day (food somehow tastes so much better in the fresh air!) more often than not it's a fairly transient affair; parking up somewhere and having a little car-picnic before we head out. It felt so luxurious to sit out on a blanket and linger over everything. Definitely something I want to do more often!

3. This glorious weather.

Old George Inn, Newcastle

I love the heat so I'd be happy if this heatwave went on until autumn!

4. An old friend getting in touch out of the blue.

5. This beautiful new pen.

I've been getting back into using fountain pens lately, and while I have a couple of Parker IM pens that are satisfyingly heavy and a joy to use, as soon as I laid eyes on the Traveler's Company brass fountain pen I fell hopelessly in love with it.
